Customer History
Our customer is a commercial fiberglass door manufacturer focusing on insulated doors that resist chemicals, salt air, abuse, moisture, bacteria, radiation, and a host of other environmentally troublesome elements. Advanced Fiber Products (AFP) has been manufacturing many of the components utilized in this customer’s door systems since 1992.
When the client realized they needed to develop a 90-minute fire door, they started their efforts with another supplier. After that supplier produced multiple failed attempts, they brought the challenge to us at AFP.
AFP began designing a high performance system that would pass the difficult tests required for an Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL) approved 90-minute fire door. The product was not only required to pass stringent fire retardant testing, but also needed to meet the customer’s internal standards for processability and appearance. Using many combinations of fire retardant resin and glass components, AFP created a number of prototypes for the door manufacturer to evaluate.
A final system was chosen, taken to UL for testing, and has achieved the 90-minute rating. This partnership has given our customer the ability to sell products in an entirely new market segment.
